Kindergarten & 2nd Grade CogAT Information
Kindergarten CogAT information:
Kindergarten Highly Capable Testing
Winter i-Ready Math and Reading scores will be used as a screening assessment for the Highly Capable (Hi-Cap) program. Families of Kindergarten students selected for participation will be notified during the week of February 14th. Students who advance to full testing will take the Cognitive Aptitude Test (CogAT) Form 7, Full Level 7. This assessment will take place from February 24th to 28th at your student's assigned Issaquah School District (ISD) school during the school day. Pre-screened Kindergarten students attending private or home-based schools who are selected to participate will be assessed simultaneously with school classmates at the ISD boundary school where they currently reside.
Winter i-Ready Reading and Math scores will be combined with CogAT scores to create the final Highly Capable Score report. This report will provide eligibility results for the Hi-Cap program and will be distributed to qualifying Kindergarten families around mid-May 2025. Students identified as “most highly capable” will be invited to start Highly Capable Services in the Primary Enrichment Program (PEP), which is a pull-out program, around the End of May 2025 of the current school year.
If you do not wish your student to participate in testing, please complete the Opt-Out Form.
Families can email highlycapable@issaquah.wednet.edu if they have further questions.

Second-grade students who attend private or home-based schools and were pre-selected for participation will be assessed at the boundary school of the ISD where they currently reside, alongside their classmates from public schools.
Winter i-Ready Reading and Math scores will be combined with CogAT and TTCT scores to generate the final Highly Capable Score report. This report will determine eligibility results for the Hi-Cap program and will be distributed to all second-grade families around mid-May 2025. Students identified as “most highly capable” will be invited to join either the SAGE or MERLIN programs in September of the 2025-26 school year.
